About Me

Hello and welcome! My name is Michael Gracia, I am a 9th grade humanities student teacher at High Tech High Mesa. Having lived in San Diego since I moved at the age of 10 from North Carolina, I have grown up in the South Bay. As an alumni of HTH, class of 2015, I have been involved in project based learning for nearly in a decade in some capacity. From 2015-2019 I attended Point Loma Nazarene University where I majored in Sociology, graduating with honors.

In my practice I am dedicated to antiracist teaching, social-emotional learning (especially after Covid learning), and considering positionality in the classroom. As an educator who is Latino, Native American (Yaqui), Filipino, and White, I believe it is important to bring my experiences- and that of my ancestors- into the classroom. This said, the classroom is a student-centered space where I want to be the bridge for students and their learning, not simply a talking head.

In my free time, I love to steep and drink tea, read books, listen to copious amounts of music, and play video games.

Currently I am planning to take a year off from education. This was not an easy decision to make, however it was a necessary one. I will return to education in the 2023-2024 school year.
